The presentations--by the Edison Electric Institute and the U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Information Administration-- provide fundamental background on how electricity is generated, transmitted and delivered into the home or business and the critical role electricity plays in our economy(from the US DOE).

Automobile exhaust and fossil-fueled power plants are the largest contributors to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) are seen as practical alternative to fossil-fueled transportation, even though much research needs to be accomplished to assure that it can reliably replace conventional automobiles.But this requires that "gassing" up the vehicle with electricity anywhere, anytime; and must be easy and transactionally covenient. The grid infrastructure must be modernized to meet smart charging needs.and monitoring emissions can be confined to a single source--- the power plant instead of the tail pipe-- more easily measurable and subject to compliance. Likely this will bring new impetus for the utilization of renewable power sources.
